Why try out for ASU Cheer?
ASU Cheer is a fun but competitive cheerleading program. We compete at the Collegiate Division IA Level 6 Show Cheer. We are able to do any tumbling pass through a double full and any 2 1/2 stunt. The team has a good time, but they focus on continuously improving themselves and the team as the season progresses. It is a great place to meet friends with the same interests and make friendships that last for a lifetime. During our Spring competition season, we travel all over the South West to compete against other teams such as USC, UCSB, CBU, UCSD and many others. On average, the team competes between 4-6 times per year, with at least 1 competition in the Phoenix area.
Besides competition, the team also supports ASU by performing at a variety of events such as Homecoming and Devilpalooza. Additionally, we support our local community through outreach events like the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Light the Night with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Toys for Tots.
Participants are expected to uphold a high standard of participation, respect, and consideration for not only the cheer team, but for Arizona State University as well.
Summer: We expect you to condition throughout the summer and stretch so you are prepared for the season.
Fall/Spring: The times you will need to be available for cheer in the 2013-2014 season is M/T/W/Th 8:00-10:30pm. We will be practicing 3 days per week like previous years, but we will also be having a mandatory tumbling practice once a week. In order to attend all four mandatory practices, you MUST schedule your classes around these times! Performances, competitions, appearances, fundraisers are usually scheduled on the weekends with at least two weeks notice. All members must sign out one month in advance if they are unable to attend an event.

What to expect:
Try outs will be a long one day process, there will be a workshop from noon-2pm, then evaluations and tryouts directly after, it could potentially last until 8pm. During the workshop we will teach a simple dance that will be performed later that day during tryouts. We will also be evaluating tumbling and jump skills, we will provide spots if needed only during warms up.
For tumbling, candidates are expected to show tumbling without a spot in order to properly assess their current abilities. We would like to see standing and running tumbling. We will also give you the option of showing us a specialty pass. The more creative you are in your tumbling the more likely you are to be selected for the team. Jumps to tumbling is also a requirement along with standing tuck or higher. If you are interested in privates prior to try outs, please contact either Aspire Kids Sports Center or AZ Heat All Stars.
Finals cuts will be made after evaluations and interviews. The names will be posted under the 2014-2015 team tab on the website. If you do not see your name, please do not be discouraged and we would love to see you try again next year!
All candidates including veterans, must attend the three day process in order to be considered for the 2013-2014 team.
